On the eve of the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), Russian minister of the Interior, Vyacheslav von Plehve, commented that "what this country needs is a short, victorious war to stem the tide of revolution." The Japanese delivered Russia its war, but it was not victorious and ended in revolution. War has often been the recourse of politicians keen to divert the attention of the masses from unsolvable economic or political problems. Austria's foolish ultimatum to Serbia in July 1914 set off an uncontrollable sequence of events that completely destroyed Europe in the Great War. In 1979, after a drunken politburo meeting in the Kremlin, the Soviets flippantly invaded Afghanistan. Von Plehye's quote about a "short, victorious war" was even quoted during the meeting. The Soviet intervention in Afghanistan became a running sore that contributed to the ultimate downfall of the Soviet system.
Three years after the invasion of Afghanistan, the Argentinian Junta attempted to divert the public's attention to their misrule by invading the Malvinas, known to the English as the Falklands. It was reasonable for the Junta to believe that the chaotic, cash-strapped government of Margaret Thatcher would huff and puff but otherwise do nothing. Despite appearances, the UK was desperately poor and thanks to drastic budget cuts the Royal Navy could barely scrape together a fleet. It only had two light carriers operational, HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible, and Hermes was earmarked to be scrapped later that very year. But the Argentine invasion was exactly the sort of crisis Thatcher's government needed to save it from collapse so the British sent a task force to the South Atlantic. It was a high stakes gamble for both sides but the British eventually prevailed - at huge cost - losing five modern warships and a requisitioned container ship in the process. For the Junta, the defeat was fatal and their government collapsed. For Thatcher it was a huge boon, transforming her into the "Iron Lady" and securing her a landslide election victory.
More recently, in 2015 Saudi Arabia attempted to impose its control over its poverty stricken southern neighbor, Yemen, in order to monopolize oil transit routes. With the unconditional military and political support of the US and UK, Saudi Arabia expected a walkover, but seven years later is trapped in a disastrous war of attrition that will only end with the collapse of the repressive and repulsive Saudi regime. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the 'uni-polar moment', the US, UK and western financial oligarchy have been maneuvering to corporatize the entire world. This is been a long running project, working slowly over decades to sedate the people, undermine universal human rights and international law, corrupt institutions, indoctrinate cadres of politicians, bureaucrats and lobbyists in order to bring the world under their control. Like evolution, this process does not simply take place incrementally, but depends on short, sharp shocks and crises to ratchet the program forward. Starting with 9-11 we saw the wholesale destruction of legal rights and protections in order to protect us from terrorism. A series of pointless but profitable wars saw the a diversified press and media pulled into lockstep with state propaganda.
[Side-note - I was undertaking my politics and history degree in the year before the invasion of Iraq and wrote extensively about the drumbeat towards war. The Guardian and the Australian Financial Review were both editorially opposed to the war and wrote many articles attacking the US and Australian governments. By the time the war started, both newspapers had been bought out and their editorial position became pro-imperial. The Guardian is now woke rag and the AFR is happy to print whatever anti-Chinese bullshit is shoveled onto its editorial desk. This silencing of the multiplicity of views has only accelerated since].
Climate fear porn was seen as the best way to steer the masses toward the reduction of consumption and lower expectations. UN reports and breathless reporting of droughts, floods, tides, volcanoes, glaciers, bleached coral, sunshine, UV and cow farts were all spun to create the impression of impending crisis - an extinction event. The problem here however, is that the environment does what it wants and no amount of corporate lobbying can influence it. There is only so much fake science that can be flung in people's faces, telling them the world is getting hotter, while actual median temperatures cool. The fact is, people really don't give a shit whether some God forsaken spot in deepest, darkest Africa is suffering a seasonal drought if the price is to lose your car, house or job. Carbon taxes - really just another mechanism to extort money for breathing - were dead the moment they were uttered. Taxes do not sell.
If the people could not be convinced to hand over their hard earned assets 'to save the world', then they would need to be panicked into doing so. The threat of a worldwide pandemic had been floated as a trial balloon about every three to five years since 2000. Do you remember them? There was the SARS outbreak in 2003, but that never really took off [another side-note: I was on holiday in Hong Kong at the peak of the crisis. International media were hyping a plague of biblical proportions, but in Hong Kong - there was nothing. No crisis. No mass illness. The authorities and medical staff were on television and in the newspapers expressing puzzlement where exactly this crisis was happening? That experience has informed my opinions ever since - these things always occur in some obscure place where it's difficult to verify what is happeneing]. There was Swine Flu in 2009 but the vaccine program was quickly suspended due to side effects. Those vaccines were also promoted as being "safe and effective." SARS made its return as MERS in 2012 and fell flat. Remember the H5N1 Bird Flu pandemic of 2014-15 and again in 2020? Do you remember the World Health Organization proposing the mass extermination of chickens, pigeons and virtually all other bird life on this planet to stop the spread? Does no one remember this insanity? I mention it to friends and they look at like me like I'm a mad person. In Africa there was the horrific Ebola virus, which fortunately did not prove amenable to weaponization, despite the best efforts of psychopaths in Dr Anthony Fauci's NIA. In 2016, there was the Zika virus hysteria, all based on an unproven supposition that a long known virus that produced gastro-like effects may have resulted in microcephaly in pre-natal pregnancies. This was on the basis of a study of something like five cases in rural Brazil. https://www.moonofalabama.org/2016/10/the-zika-virus-is-harmless-it-does-not-cause-birth-defects-we-told-you-so.html Do you remember Influenza B in 2019?
Every one of these over-hyped pandemics fell flat. In 2020 however, the public swallowed the bait, hook line and sinker, and the program ratcheted up several notches, but it could never last. The public have now had enough and are no longer prepared to play this game. The facade needs to taken down but the infrastructure must be left intact for the next phase. This means the public protests in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, which if left to run their course would see the incumbent criminals thrown from office, if not in jail, need to be squashed, but not with jackbooted uniforms thugs. Not yet. If only there was some sort of existential threat that could be used to distract..... Russia!
The 'Russian Problem' is worth a post of its own - a long one. Suffice it say, the Russians are a familiar and convenient bogeymen going right back to the 1840s. Ironically, our current crisis has its origins in the collapse of the Soviet Union. After it reached out to the west for help to modernize its economy after the collapse of Communism, the US unleashed its financial parasites on Russia who plundered and destroyed its economy, siphoning away trillions of dollars in assets. The mechanisms used to pillage Russia and the former Eastern Bloc countries were not simply put aside after that job was done, but were soon turned on other foreign competitors. In 1997, the US turned on the Asian 'Tiger' economies, crashing currencies and stripping assets. The financial scam then moved to South America before turning on Europe. Now, as predicted by Vladimir Lenin, capitalism, with nowhere left to turn has begun to eat itself. Border-less, nation-less self-interested financial interests have been frantically, desperately strip mining the US and whatever remains of the collective 'west.' Infinite consumption and growth cannot be sustained in a world of finite resources. No matter how much money the US Treasury prints, the bill will still need to be paid and the bill is currently overdue.
The true octopus - Standard Oil and the Rockerfellers
Russia and China have presented the world with model of prosperity and growth based on the development of productive industry that is fundamentally opposed to the western model of financial speculation, rent-seeking and crony capitalism. This is something the entrenched interests of the west cannot permit to progress. http://thesaker.is/unpacking-the-russian-chinese-joint-statement/
Russian and China are effectively autarkic. They can sustain themselves from their shared resources, so no western sanctions can influence them. In fact, the sanctions only strengthen Russian and Chinese domestic industry and piss off European allies. War with Russia and China is the only option available to the US and UK - but how? but when? And how does one poke the bear and walk away intact? Despite the relentless projection of US and NATO strength and Russian weakness, the facts are inverted. The US is incapable of taking on Russia on any level, whether in a localized conflict in the Ukraine, or in a strategic military engagement. That said, there are reasons why the time may be now.
The powers that be are reeling from the backlash against the mismanagement (deliberate exploitation) of Covid and mandates. Several key governments around the world are crumbling in the face of open public opposition. These puppets and their associated infrastructure must be preserved as credible, legitimate authorities. They cannot afford to be swept from power by pubic pressure and replaced by a return to true civil government. But if these shaky authorities cannot go and start shooting their own people, then shooting people in a distant country will be required. Things have become very dangerous. It will take a separate post to explain why everything written by the certifiable retards in the mainstream media about the forthcoming Russian invasion of Ukraine is complete and utter nonsense. In the meantime, I will leave you with a quote from a real statesman, Otto Von Bismark.
"The pre-emptive war against Russia is suicide for fear of death".
