At the end of day one, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that all tasks for the day were completed successfully. Russian Forces continue to roll over Ukrainian forces despite pockets of fierce resistance, mainly from the neo-Nazi battalions. The Nazis know their murderous misdeeds will not be forgiven and are fighting like their lives depend on it.
1. There has been limited advances in Lugansk due to the resistance of the militias. Heavy militia losses are reported.
2. Fighting continues on the outskirts of Kharkov.
3. The Russian Armed Forces occupied Sumy and several other settlements in the Sumy region.
4. The Russian campaign out of the Crimea has successfully reoccupied most of the Kherson region.
5. Russian Airborne Forces seized and occupied the Gostomel airfield near Kiev. Ukrainian forces attempted a counter-assault to recapture it, fearing that the airfield will be used land the Pskov Airborne Brigade for the assault on Kiev.
6. The US believes that Kiev will fall within 96 hours. As expected, the US has done nothing except talk of sanctions.
7. Britain announced that Ukrainian governemtn ministers (and other collaboraters) will be evacuated to Lviv, probably to claim asylm in the various European embassies that were evacuated there. Lviv is currently under Russian air attack.
8. In the oops, propaganda fail catagory, US sponsored Radio Liberty in Ukraine conducted a public survey poll in response to the "Russian aggression." The response was 70% in favour of the Russian action.
Afternoon update 7pm.
1. Progress against entrenched Ukrainian forces in Lugansk remains slow but steady. Both DPR and LDR forces expect to reach their respective state borders by the end of the weekend. Ukrainian militia units continue to put up stubborn resistance.
2. Russian Armed Forces from Crimea retain control over the Antonovsky bridge across the Dnieper near Kherson and have repelled counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The fighting in the area of the bridge continues. Russian forces also captured New Kakhovka and Melitopol and are advancing in the direction of Berdyansk.
3. Hard fighting continues around Kharkov with losses on both sides. There has been some criticism in Russia of the generally lenient approach towards Ukrainian military units, warning them in advance and requesting their surrender, before engaging in firefights. In the theatres where the Ukrainians are putting up hard resistance, this reluctance to use massive force has contributed to casualties and slowing progress. Now, one day in, there is a view that any Ukrainian forces that are emplaced should be automatically treated as hostile.
4. Russian forces took Putivl and passed around Sumy (there is continued fighting at the airport) and advanced to Konotop, surrounding the city. Attempts have been made to take Akhtyrka in order to reach Kharkov from the west. Russian checkpoints have been set up on the Sumy-Kiev highway. There was an advance towards Kiev and Chernigov but Ukraine forces repulsed the Russian attack from the direction of Chernihiv.
5. As mentioned earlier, a Russian paratroop regiment of 200 men seized the Gostomel airfield, a few kilometres outside Kiev. Ukrainian forces made repeated attempts to drive them out in order to prevent the Russian's being able to use the airfield to bring in more troops, but these assaults have been unsuccessfu. Tank columns of the RF Armed Forces broke through to the approaches to Kiev and are close to establishing a direct connection with the landing force. Ukrainian forces are preparing another counterattack, declaring that the Russians will be thrown out of the Gostomel area later today.
6. Chechen forces have been seen outside Kiev. It's believed they will held in reserve for the assault on any Nazi units in Kiev.
7. Ukraine launched a missile attack on the Millerovo airfield in Russian. There was damage to the airfield but none tp aircraft or casualties.
8. To slow the Russian advance on Kiev, Ukrainian forces have begun blowing up the bridges over the Dneiper.
