Phase one of the Ukrainian operation is nearing its close. All Ukrainian forces in the country are locked up and are now under the Russian hammer, and that hammer is very hard.
Mariupol - Significant developments
The collapse of the Azov defenses has been faster than anticipated, not that it is a walkover. Clearing the city of Azov and Ukrainian forces involves searching door to door. The Azov brigade follow the Syrian rebel tactics of positioning themselves in the upper floors of apartment blocks where they can snipe and any returned fire risks civilian casualties. It was due to this tactic that the Syrian army developed the infamous 'barrel bomb' technique. Dropping a bomb from a helicopter directly onto the terrorist positions on the upper floor of an occupied building lowered the risks of civilian casualties than blasting the terrorists out with artillery or missile fire. It was only western propaganda that turned it into an indiscriminate 'terror weapon.'
As Ukrainian forces were pushed back towards the centre of Mariupol it became impossible for them to hold the civilian population hostage and they were suddenly able to evacuate the city. Huge convoys of people have been escorted from the warzone to the east, where refugee camps have been set up.
Military age men are being checked for escaping nationalists. Many nationalist militiamen are tattooed with swasticas and other nazi iconography so it's a simple matter to ask the men to remove their shirts.
In desperation, Azov terrorist blew up a theatre in the centre of the city, claiming it was destroyed in a Russian air strike. They claimed the building was being used as a refugee for women, children and pensioners in their propaganda, however, when the emergency services arrived, there were no casualties.
The Ukrainian forces continue to create fake attrocities for the world's fake media. Some of this BS is laughable.
Chechen special forces are leading the house-to-house work.
There are reports that a large contingent of the Azov brigade withdrew to defensive positions in the Azovstal steelworks plant. The Russians have smashed the steelworks with Calibre missiles, which brings us to.....
The next phase
The western sponsors of this conflict were given a taste of Russia's resolve when the Yarovorsky training and logistics base on the Polish border was destroyed with Calibre missiles. Around one thousand mercenaries of the Ukrainian foreign legion were there for fit out and training (Yarovosky is a gigantic base).
Approximately 300 are dead. 450 to 500 are wounded and have been evacuated to Poland. Some 300 to 400 are missing in the rubble. Among the dead and missing are American, British and Polish special forces. Although western media is attempting to suppress the story, those mercenaries who survived and have fled have been spilling the beans all over social media. Few western mercenaries would have had the experience of being sustained artillery fire, like an MLRS system.
$400 million in military supplies went up in smoke.
The Yarovorsky attack marks the beginning of a new phase in the war. The Ukrainian army is trapped in the pocket on the LDPR border and the various nationalist garrisons are bottled up in the major cities (Mariupol, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkov and Kiev. Russia has complete battlefield dominance. The Russian Ministry of Defense last night announced that they will now bring to bear Russia's latest stand off weapons against units on battlefield. A massive Calibre strike was used on the head quarters 79th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Nikolaev. Early reports are the strike killed around 200 soldiers outright and wounded around 300. As an operational entity, the 19th Brigade ceases to exist. This is a clear warning to all that there will be no more messing around.
Russian Ministry of Defence also advised that their newest hypersonic missile, the Khinzahl has been deployed (see video below). This is now being openly reported in the western news media. Following the missile attack on Donetsk, any surviving Ukrainian ballistic missile units, their supply bases and most especially their command infrastructure are being systematically wiped out. This program of destruction has extended to Ukraine's industrial military capacity, including tank repair shops, arms manufacturing and vehicle and aircraft repair services.
So, Russia is using a combination of tactics to bring the matter to a close. High precision, stand off weaponry to annihilate the units pinned on the battlefield, while within the cities, operational tactical units and special forces will hunt down and clear out pockets of resistance. This will be undertaken city by city if needs be, but hopefully after making a few examples - such as the Azov brigade - resistance will break down and the conflict will end.
